What “unsweetened” means

On our labels, “unsweetened” means that no sugar is added to the fruit. The dried fruit itself keeps its natural sugars, concentrated by drying: it stays sweet, sometimes very sweet. That's why we don't present these products as diet foods: if you follow a special diet, ask your doctor or dietitian for advice. Only the six products on this page carry the label; for the other dried fruits, ask us for the ingredients on WhatsApp, we'll answer product by product.

The six fruits in the selection

Unsweetened dried apricots, orange and soft, with a frank flavor. Unsweetened Turkish dried figs, dense, their centers full of small crunchy seeds. Unsweetened golden raisins, golden and tender, and Unsweetened jumbo raisins, bigger and darker. Finally, two tart berries: Unsweetened dried goji berries, orange-red, and Unsweetened dried cranberries, tarter still, because cranberries are naturally very sour and most commercial cranberries are sweetened to soften them.

How to enjoy them

At breakfast, chop apricots or figs into a yogurt, a porridge or a bowl of oats; goji berries and cranberries can be sprinkled over a fruit salad or granola. At snack time, a few raisins and a handful of almonds make a simple snack to slip into a school bag or a purse. On the tea table, figs and apricots naturally find their place next to the dates. In the kitchen, raisins go into couscous tfaya and sweet and savory tagines, apricots into a lamb tagine.

Pairing them with other flavors

Unsweetened fruits go very well with nuts: apricots and almonds, figs and walnuts, raisins and cashews. For a balanced bowl, pair them with Roasted unsalted cashews or Forna almonds from Meknes. Cranberries and goji berries bring a tart touch that livens up a milder mix of nuts and dried fruit. For children's snack time, a small bowl of apricots and raisins next to the almonds pleases young and old alike.

Storage

Keep them in an airtight jar, somewhere cool and away from light. In hot, humid weather, the refrigerator keeps them supple longer, especially figs and apricots; take them out a little while before serving so they soften again. Close tightly after each serving: humidity in the air makes them sticky.

Frequently asked questions

Do unsweetened fruits contain sugar?
They contain no added sugar, but they keep the fruit's natural sugars, concentrated by drying.
Why are the unsweetened cranberries so tart?
Cranberries are naturally very sour; most commercial dried cranberries are sweetened to soften them. With no added sugar, they keep their bright tartness, perfect in a yogurt or a salad.
Do you have other unsweetened dried fruits?
For now, only these six products carry the label. For the others, ask us for the ingredients on WhatsApp.
Are they suitable for people with diabetes?
We can't give medical advice: dried fruits remain rich in natural sugars. Ask your doctor for advice.
