Description

Sukari means “sugary,” and this date lives up to its name. Its golden, finely wrinkled skin hides very tender flesh that almost melts in your mouth, with an intense sweetness and notes of caramel. Some have a lighter, firmer tip.

Serve it with black coffee or a lightly sweetened mint tea, which balance its sweetness. It has its place at ftour, on a festive platter or in baking, mashed into date paste to fill cookies or makrout (semolina and date pastries).

How to enjoy it
  • With black coffee or a lightly sweetened tea
  • At ftour or on a festive platter
  • Mashed into date paste for cookies and makrout
Storage

In a closed container, in a cool place. Because they are so tender, Sukari dates keep better in the fridge in hot weather; take them out a little before serving.

Questions about sukari dates

Are they sweeter than Medjool?
They are known for their intense sweetness, hence their name. Medjool is fleshier; Sukari melts more and tastes sweeter.
How do I make date paste with them?
Pit them, then mash them with a fork or in a blender with a little butter or oil. Flavor with cinnamon or orange blossom water, depending on the recipe.
